Our global payments client is hiring a Principal DevOps Engineer to build and own the delivery platforms behind a large-scale, mission-critical payments system. This is a hands-on, product-led engineering role.
What Makes This Role Different
- Docker & Docker Compose — not Kubernetes: Docker & Docker Compose are used in both development and production. Multi-stage builds, image optimisation, advanced Compose patterns. Kubernetes / Helm-centric backgrounds are out of scope.
- Hybrid Cloud + On-Prem Infrastructure: Operates across cloud and on-prem environments. Strong focus on on-prem workloads. VMware vSphere / Hyper-V. Infrastructure as Code applied outside the cloud.
- Serious CI/CD Engineering: Deep GitHub Actions expertise (reusable workflows, composite actions, OIDC). Strong build tooling: .NET CLI / MSBuild and/or Maven / Gradle. Artifact promotion pipelines across multiple formats. This is engineering, not pipeline admin.
- Product Engineering Mindset: Build, own, and operate platforms in production. Clear outcomes: built, owned, migrated, reduced X by Y%. Consulting-only backgrounds without product ownership are less suitable.
Strong Fit If You Have:
- Deep Docker & Docker Compose expertise.
- Hybrid cloud and on-prem infrastructure experience.
- Strong CI/CD and build systems background.
- Experience owning real systems in production.
Less Likely a Fit If Your Background Is:
- Kubernetes or orchestration-heavy.
- Cloud-only in recent years.
- Primarily consulting-led.
- Light on CI/CD or build tooling depth.
If you prefer clarity over complexity, ownership over buzzwords, and enjoy building platforms that support real-world payment traffic, this is a rare opportunity.
