Eden Scott Accountancy & Finance Division is delighted to be supporting a friendly, ambitious and fast‑growing business in Midlothian as they look to appoint an experienced Bookkeeper on a 13‑month fixed‑term contract. This organisation has been operating for over 200 years and continues to evolve as a diversified rural enterprise. It’s an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative, supportive team within a business that blends heritage with modern growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing day‑to‑day financial processing, including supplier payments, sales income, and general ledger entries
- Overseeing the sales and purchase ledgers, ensuring accurate and timely posting of all transactions
- Preparing and submitting quarterly VAT returns in line with HMRC requirements
- Carrying out regular bank reconciliations and resolving any discrepancies
- Producing monthly financial reports, including cash flow updates, P&L summaries and balance sheet information
- Assisting with quarterly management accounts, providing clear insight into business performance
- Coordinating payroll activities and ensuring staff are paid accurately and on time
- Processing employee expenses and ensuring compliance with internal policies
- Supporting the Director of Finance and external advisors with year‑end preparation and general administrative finance tasks
About You
- We’re looking for someone who brings solid bookkeeping experience, ideally within a varied or multi‑income‑stream environment
- Strong understanding of ledgers, reconciliations and VAT
- Excellent attention to detail and confidence working independently
- Good communication skills and a proactive, organised approach
- Experience with accounting software and strong Excel capability
