Product Development & Installation Technician in Irvine

Irvine Full-Time On-site
E

We are partnering with an innovative Scottish technology business that develops advanced industrial monitoring, condition monitoring and edge-AI solutions for customers across a range of industrial and manufacturing environments.

Combining sensor technology, embedded systems, engineering expertise and data-driven insights, the company is helping organisations better understand the condition, performance and reliability of critical assets through next-generation monitoring technology.

Following continued growth and increasing customer demand, they are seeking a hands-on Product Development & Installation Technician to support the development, testing, deployment and maintenance of their solutions across the UK.

This is an opportunity to join a growing business at an exciting stage of its journey, where you will have genuine input into product development and play a key role in customer deployments.

The Role

This is a highly varied position combining elements of:

  • Electrical and mechanical systems
  • Sensor installation and commissioning
  • Vibration and condition monitoring
  • Fault finding and diagnostics
  • Industrial networking and connectivity
  • Product testing and development
  • Customer-facing field deployments

Working closely with engineers and product specialists, you will help build, configure, test and deploy monitoring solutions both in-house and at customer sites throughout the UK.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development & Testing

  • Build and configure test rigs and demonstration systems
  • Assist with prototype development and product improvements
  • Assemble electrical and mechanical components
  • Support testing and validation activities
  • Install sensors and monitoring equipment on industrial assets
  • Determine optimal sensor placement on machinery including motors, pumps, bearings, compressors, fans and other rotating equipment to ensure high-quality monitoring data
  • Install and configure vibration monitoring sensors, accelerometers and related condition-monitoring equipment in line with industry best practice
  • Commission systems and verify operational performance
  • Route, terminate and label cabling to a high standard
  • Configure hardware and peripheral devices
  • Conduct installation testing and documentation
  • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical and connected systems
  • Diagnose faults with sensors, communications hardware and field devices
  • Investigate connectivity and signal-flow issues
  • Analyse vibration and condition-monitoring data to identify developing equipment faults and performance issues
  • Support root-cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Assist with machine-health assessments through interpretation of monitoring data and engineering observations

Customer Deployments

  • Travel to customer sites across the UK
  • Carry out installations and commissioning activities
  • Build strong relationships with customers through professional service delivery

Skills & Experience

  • Hands-on experience with machinery, electromechanical equipment, industrial maintenance, installation, instrumentation or a comparable practical technical environment
  • Confidence using appropriate hand tools, power tools and basic test equipment safely
  • A working understanding of mechanical and electrical systems and how their components interact
  • Ability to identify common monitoring sensor types, understand what they measure, and fit and connect them correctly
  • Practical competence in component mounting, basic fitting, sensor wiring, cable routing and tidy, labelled workmanship
  • Working knowledge of PCs, basic networking and IT systems, with the ability to learn industrial-PC configuration
  • Understanding of signal flow and systematic fault diagnosis across physical equipment and connected systems
  • Ability to understand basic vibration analysis principles, including imbalance, misalignment, looseness and bearing faults
  • Confidence assessing industrial machinery and determining appropriate locations for sensor placement to capture meaningful condition-monitoring data
  • Ability to follow drawings, wiring diagrams, equipment manuals and technical instructions
  • Clear communication, accurate record-keeping and constructive working relationships with customers and colleagues
  • Sound safety judgement, including knowing when to call in a specialist
  • Ability to commute reliably to our workshop, a valid driving licence and willingness to undertake nationwide travel and overnight stays

Qualifications and Experience Level

Practical or vocational experience is preferred over a degree. An engineering apprenticeship, relevant vocational qualification or equivalent hands‑on experience would be suitable. Around two years of relevant experience is enough if you can show practical ability, judgement and readiness to learn.

Candidates with experience in condition monitoring and vibration analysis will be particularly attractive. Industry‑recognised certifications such as ISO 18436-2 Vibration Analysis accreditation would be highly desirable.

Membership of professional bodies including the British Institute of Non-Destructive Testing (BINDT), Mobius Institute Board of Certification (MIBoC) and/or the Vibration Institute would also be advantageous, although not essential.

This is a guide rather than a rigid minimum. The quality and relevance of your experience matter more than time served. A degree is not required.

  • Experience of vibration monitoring and condition‑monitoring techniques, including accelerometers, temperature sensors and other predictive maintenance technologies
  • Practical experience analysing vibration data and determining appropriate sensor placement on rotating machinery and industrial assets
  • ISO 18436-2 Vibration Analysis certification (or working towards certification)
  • Membership of BINDT, MIBoC and/or the Vibration Institute
  • Industrial PCs, input/output terminals, data‑acquisition systems or edge‑computing equipment
  • Beckhoff, Siemens, Trend and Schneider (or similar) industrial automation platforms
  • Industrial communications such as Modbus or MQTT
  • Basic Linux knowledge or configuration of Windows‑based industrial systems
  • Commissioning, customer‑site installations or technical demonstrations
  • Test‑rig maintenance, recording test conditions or structured validation work
  • Relevant electrical, machinery‑safety or site‑working training

You do not need experience of every platform. They will train you on their own systems, with support from the development team.

Ideal Backgrounds

We would be particularly interested in speaking with candidates currently working as:

  • Vibration Analyst
  • Industrial Maintenance Technician
  • Electrical Maintenance Engineer
  • Reliability Technician
  • Reliability Engineer
  • Predictive Maintenance Technician
  • Commissioning Engineer
  • Mechatronics Technician

What We Are Looking For

The successful candidate will be:

  • Hands‑on and practical
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Naturally curious and solutions‑focused
  • Confident interacting with customers
  • Motivated by solving real‑world engineering challenges
  • Able to assess equipment condition and identify the most effective sensor locations for monitoring applications
  • Interested in vibration analysis, reliability engineering and predictive maintenance technologies
  • Excited by the opportunity to work within a growing technology business
  • Keen to contribute ideas and help improve products and processes

What's on Offer?

  • Competitive salary DOE
  • Exposure to cutting‑edge industrial monitoring, condition‑monitoring and AI technologies
  • Opportunity to influence product development
  • Varied role combining workshop, development and field‑based activities
  • Significant scope for career development as the business grows
  • Collaborative and supportive working environment

If you're a hands‑on engineer or technician who enjoys solving technical problems, analysing machine condition, working with innovative monitoring technology and seeing the direct impact of your work, we'd love to hear from you.
