We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Health & Safety professional to join our Social Work Services team as a Health & Safety Service Manager. This is a unique opportunity to lead a committed team, drive strategic improvements, and play a key role in ensuring a safe and compliant working environment across our service.
In this role, you will provide leadership and direction to the Health & Safety team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement. You will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our Health & Safety Management System, ensuring it meets all legislative and policy requirements. As the lead advisor on Health & Safety matters, you will offer expert guidance to senior management and act as the primary liaison with external bodies, including the Health and Safety Executive.
You will also lead and contribute to key projects, particularly those related to Health and Social Care Integration, bringing innovative thinking and practical solutions to complex challenges. A vital part of your role will involve preparing and presenting detailed reports on Health & Safety issues, while maintaining strong and collaborative relationships with Trade Unions and other stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you must hold a NEBOSH Diploma (or equivalent) and be a Chartered Member of IOSH.
Alternatively, candidates who are actively working towards Chartered Membership of IOSH will be considered, provided they can demonstrate clear progress and a commitment to achieving full membership within 12 months of commencing employment. Evidence of engagement with the IOSH chartered pathway and steps already undertaken will be required as part of the recruitment and selection process. A candidate recruited on this basis will receive a conditional fixed term contract for up to 1 year subject to the successful achievement of Chartered Membership of IOSH, whereupon employment will become permanent.
You should also have a proven track record in a senior Health & Safety role, with a comprehensive understanding of relevant legislation and best practice. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential, along with the ability to influence and engage senior leaders and stakeholders. While not essential, additional professional qualifications and experience working with partner agencies and elected members would be advantageous.
Joining our team means making a meaningful impact on the safety and wellbeing of staff and service users. We offer opportunities for professional development and career progression, and you will be part of a collaborative and forward-thinking environment where your expertise will be valued and your contributions recognised.
Candidates should be aware that recruitment for this position will also be supported by our recruitment partners, Eden Scott. Candidates should expect to be contacted directly by Eden Scott as part of our recruitment processes.
