Salary: £85,000 – £115,000

Our global fintech client is on a mission to transform how large-scale financial transaction data is processed, reconciled, and trusted. They are now looking for an experienced Data Engineering Manager to lead a high-impact team building and scaling a mission-critical transaction matching and data platform.

This is a hands-on engineering leadership role where you will shape the data engineering roadmap, drive automation, and deliver resilient, scalable ETL/ELT pipelines in a highly regulated financial environment.

The Opportunity

In this role, you will lead a team of data engineers at the heart of a fast-growing fintech platform. You will work closely with senior business stakeholders, product leaders, architects, analysts, and delivery managers to translate complex business needs into robust, enterprise-scale data solutions. While leadership is key, this is not a “hands-off” role; you will remain close to the code, architecture, and day-to-day engineering challenges, setting technical direction by example.

What You will Be Doing

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing data engineering team
  • Own and execute the data engineering roadmap aligned to business and regulatory priorities
  • Design, build, and scale enterprise-grade ETL/ELT pipelines for transaction matching and reconciliation
  • Drive automation across data pipelines, workflows, and operational processes
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, analytics, and senior leadership teams
  • Establish data quality standards, testing frameworks, SLAs, and documentation
  • Oversee cloud-based and hybrid data integrations with a focus on reliability, security, and performance
  • Champion modern engineering practices, CI/CD, and continuous improvement in an Agile environment

What You will have (Must-Have)

  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with 3+ years in a people management or technical leadership role
  • Strong, hands-on experience with SQL (Oracle, PostgreSQL, MSSQL, or Snowflake)
  • Proficiency in a JVM-based language (Java or Groovy)
  • Proven experience designing and delivering large-scale ETL/ELT pipelines
  • Hands-on experience with DBT and Snowflake
  • Experience with CI/CD tooling such as GitLab, Jenkins, or equivalent
  • Background in regulated financial services (payments, reconciliation, safeguarding preferred)
  • Solid experience delivering in an Agile environment
  • Cloud platform experience: AWS, Azure, or GCP
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical and business conversations

Nice to Have

  • Python scripting experience
  • Exposure to Oracle EPM or similar reconciliation platforms
  • Experience with JVM-based microservices architectures
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field

Why Join?

  • Fully remote role – work from anywhere in the UK (must have permanent eligibility to work in the UK)
  • Competitive salary ranging from £85,000 to £115,000
  • Opportunity to lead and shape a business-critical data platform at scale
  • A collaborative, outcome-driven culture that values autonomy and engineering excellence
  • Real influence across technology, product, and business strategy within a global fintech environment

If you are a hands-on data engineering leader who enjoys solving complex problems, working at scale, and building high-performing teams, this is a role where you can make a genuine impact.
