We are seeking an Assistant Banking Manager – Commercial Services to join our dynamic team supporting the Commercial Banking business in Edinburgh or London. This role plays a critical part in the first line of defence, with a particular focus on complaints risk oversight, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement of operational processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the end-to-end handling of banking complaints across all Hampden products, ensuring consistency, fairness, and adherence to FCA/PRA regulatory expectations.
  • Perform outcome reviews and root cause analysis, identifying trends and working with stakeholders to implement improvements.
  • Ensure complaint handling processes meet regulatory obligations while delivering a world-class client experience.
  • Assist in maintaining the Commercial Risk Management Framework, ensuring that risk events are effectively captured, analysed, and addressed.
  • Collaborate with key teams to drive improvements in process and controls, enhancing the Bank’s risk posture.
  • Support the accurate and timely preparation of lending-related regulatory returns (e.g., PSD001/PSD007), working in partnership with Finance and Commercial teams.
  • Assist with preparing and issuing client communications, including interest rate changes and annual statements, ensuring clarity, compliance, and client understanding.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline business processes, enhance data quality, and improve internal controls.
  • Support the delivery of the Training and Competence framework, helping to maintain high professional and regulatory standards across the Commercial team.
  • Work closely with Risk & Compliance to ensure alignment with second line controls, fostering data-driven decision making.

Person Specification

  • A solid understanding of FCA/PRA complaint handling regulations and risk management principles.
  • Strong knowledge of banking operational processes, ideally in a commercial or lending environment.
  • Experience handling or supporting regulatory returns is desirable (e.g., PSD001/PSD007).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills – able to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proven analytical, problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • CeMAP qualification is desirable but not essential.
