Location: Glasgow (Hybrid Working Available)
Salary: £45,000 – £55,000 (depending on experience)
We're working with a well-regarded, independent environmental consultancy to find a Senior Ecologist / Ornithologist who's ready to take a senior role within a high-performing team. With a strong reputation for their work across the renewable energy sector, this consultancy delivers meaningful, science-led contributions to some of the UK's most ambitious infrastructure and clean energy projects.
This full-time position is based in Glasgow, with flexible hybrid working arrangements available. It's an excellent opportunity for a seasoned professional to shape ecological strategies, influence major planning processes, and provide leadership across a wide range of complex, large-scale developments.
About the Role
As Senior Ecologist / Ornithologist, you'll be a senior voice in a well-established Consenting and Environment Team, providing advanced ecological and ornithological insight across all project stages – from early feasibility studies through to post-construction monitoring. Your technical leadership will be instrumental in delivering robust environmental assessments and guiding ecological best practice.
You'll also take a hands-on role in mentoring and guiding junior colleagues, overseeing project delivery, and contributing to strategic growth across the business.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead on ecological and ornithological input for infrastructure and renewable energy projects, including survey strategy, data interpretation, and impact assessments.
- Prepare and review high-quality technical documentation – including EIAs, HRA reports, licence applications, and monitoring frameworks.
- Manage the delivery of multiple concurrent projects, ensuring timelines, budgets, and technical standards are met.
- Support and mentor early-career ecologists, sharing your expertise and promoting professional development within the team.
- Build strong working relationships with clients, regulators, consultees, and other stakeholders.
- Stay up to date with policy, legislation, and industry best practices relevant to ecology and renewables.
- Actively support business development by contributing to proposals, identifying opportunities, and attending industry events.
What We're Looking For
Education & Professional Background
- A degree in Ecology, Biology, Zoology, Environmental Science, or a closely related subject.
- Professional membership of CIEEM, IEMA or similar is strongly preferred.
Technical Expertise
- A solid track record in ecological and/or ornithological consultancy, ideally with direct experience supporting renewable energy projects.
- Expertise in survey design, data analysis, and assessment of ecological impacts.
- Strong working knowledge of UK planning and environmental legislation, including the Habitat Regulations and Biodiversity Net Gain principles.
- Familiarity with offshore or onshore wind developments, DCO projects, and large-scale infrastructure planning is highly desirable.
Project & Team Leadership
- Proven experience in managing complex projects, budgets, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Confident leading client discussions, scoping reports, and strategic reviews.
- A collaborative leader with the ability to inspire, support and upskill junior team members.
Communication & Interpersonal Skills
- Clear, confident communicator who can explain complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
- Experience building and maintaining trusted relationships with clients and partners.
- Proactive and adaptable, with a problem-solving mindset and a passion for contributing to a more sustainable future.

- Salary: £45,000 – £55,000+ depending on experience.
- Flexible hybrid working model.
- Private healthcare and enhanced family leave benefits.
- 8% employer pension contribution.
- Gym membership and wellness support.
- Life assurance and financial protection benefits.
- Work on high-profile UK and international projects in renewables, energy, and infrastructure.
- A supportive, mission-driven team that values collaboration, integrity, and innovation.
