Eden Gallery is a leading contemporary art gallery with a global presence, representing renowned international artists. We are seeking a skilled Art Handler to join our team, specializing in the safe handling, transportation, and installation of high-value artworks. The ideal candidate must have a valid UK driving license and experience driving a 3.5t Luton van, along with a strong understanding of gallery operations and fine art logistics.
Key Responsibilities:
- Art Handling & Installation: Handle, pack, and transport high-value contemporary artworks, ensuring their safety and integrity. Install and de-install artworks in Eden Gallery locations, private collections, exhibitions, and client spaces. Use appropriate equipment and techniques to protect delicate materials such as paintings, sculptures, glass, and mixed-media works. Work closely with curators, sales teams, and artists to arrange and present artworks according to gallery standards.
- Transportation & Logistics: Drive and operate a 3.5t Luton van for local and national art deliveries. Ensure secure loading, unloading, and transportation of artworks using proper strapping, padding, and protective materials. Ensure compliance with road safety regulations and vehicle maintenance schedules. Conduct pre- and post-transport condition checks and maintain accurate documentation of artwork movements. Coordinate with external logistics partners and assist with international shipping preparations when required.
- Gallery & Storage Management: Assist with the organization and maintenance of the gallery’s art storage facilities. Monitor and manage packing materials, ensuring sufficient stock of plywood, bubble wrap, protective blankets and various packing materials. Help with the setup and breakdown of exhibitions, ensuring artworks are displayed to the highest standard. Assist with general gallery maintenance, moving furniture, and ensuring the gallery is clean and presentable.
- Health & Safety Compliance: Follow industry best practices for handling fragile and valuable artworks. Adhere to Eden Gallery’s security and conservation policies, ensuring artworks remain in pristine condition. Conduct routine vehicle and equipment safety checks, ensuring all tools are well-maintained and compliant with safety regulations.
Requirements:
- Essential: Valid UK driving license with experience driving a 3.5t Luton van. Minimum 2 years of experience in art handling, logistics, or a gallery setting. Strong knowledge of fine art packing, handling, and installation techniques. Ability to work with high-value contemporary artworks with precision and care. Physically fit and comfortable with lifting, carrying, and manoeuvring heavy pieces. Excellent time management and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced gallery environment with tight deadlines. Basic carpentry or crate-building skills for custom art packaging.
- Desirable: Experience working in high-end contemporary art galleries or fine art logistics companies. Familiarity with international shipping procedures and customs regulations. A genuine interest in art and knowledge of art is a plus.
