Role: Fabrication Quality Inspector / Welding Coordinator

Reports to: Production Manager

Hours: 40 hours per week, overtime available

Job Overview

We're looking for an experienced Fabrication Quality Inspector / Welding Coordinator to support quality, inspection and welding standards within our structural steel fabrication workshop. This role would suit someone with a strong background in fabrication, welding inspection, engineering or manufacturing quality who has good attention to detail and takes pride in high standards of workmanship. The successful candidate will check fabricated steelwork, carry out dimensional and quality inspections, support welding procedure control, maintain quality records and work closely with production teams to resolve quality issues.

Main duties will include but not limited to:

  • Carrying out quality checks on fabricated steelwork, welding and assembled components.
  • Ensuring fabrication work is completed in line with engineering drawings, specifications and quality requirements.
  • Conducting dimensional checks and verifying tolerances during fabrication and assembly.
  • Checking weld preparation, fit-up, gaps, angles and general workmanship standards.
  • Monitoring welding activities and supporting compliance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications.
  • Assisting with material traceability and quality inspection documentation.
  • Completing and maintaining quality records, inspection reports, NCRs and corrective action records.
  • Liaising with production, fabrication and welding teams to resolve quality issues.
  • Supporting internal and external audits relating to fabrication, welding and quality compliance.
  • Ensuring measuring and inspection equipment is suitable, calibrated and used correctly.
  • Promoting safe working practices, good housekeeping and adherence to company HSE procedures.
  • Supporting continuous improvement to reduce defects, rework and production delays.

Requirements

  • Previous experience in fabrication, structural steel, welding inspection, engineering or manufacturing quality inspection.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications and weld symbols.
  • Good understanding of fabrication, welding processes and workmanship standards.
  • Experience carrying out dimensional checks and quality inspections.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify quality issues.
  • Good communication skills and ability to work well with production, welding and management teams.
  • Competent in completing inspection records, quality documentation and reports.
  • Commitment to health, safety, housekeeping and high workmanship standards.

Desirable

  • Responsible Welding Coordinator / RWC training or willingness to complete training.
  • Experience working within a CE Marking.
  • Knowledge of WPS, weld maps, welder qualifications and welding procedure control.
  • Welding inspection qualification, such as CSWIP Visual Welding Inspector or equivalent.
  • Experience supporting NCRs, corrective actions or audits.
  • Previous structural steel fabrication experience.
