A Live-in Carer provides continuous care and support by residing in the Service User’s home for an agreed period. The role involves assisting with personal care, medication, household tasks, and offering companionship, while ensuring safety and comfort. Live-in carers help individuals maintain independence in familiar surroundings and become an integral part of their daily life, respecting privacy and dignity at all times.
Responsibilities
To provide continuous care and support to Service Users in their own homes, enabling them to live as independently as possible. This includes personal care, companionship, household tasks, and health-related support as outlined in each Service User’s Care Plan.
Care duties will therefore include assisting Service Users with the following tasks and activities: At all times observe and respect the Service Users – Dignity, Privacy, Wishes, Individuality and
Independence as far is practical.
Personal Care
- Dressing and Undressing;
- Washing / Bathing / Showering;
- Hair Care;
- Oral Care;
- Grooming;
- Toileting including personal hygiene;
- Continence management;
- Care and awareness of pressure sores;
- Getting in and out of bed;
- Assisting with the use of aids for daily living;
- Day / Evening and Night Sitting Services when required.
Health Care
- Liaising with other health care professionals and with the Field Care Supervisor to ensure service user records are up to date on Access Care Planning system;
- Assisting with making arrangements for health care appointments when necessary.
Aids
- Checking that all mobility and assistance aids are in good working order before and after use; contacting the servicing company or your line manager with any concerns or problems.
- Making sure all mobility aids are left on charge to ensure they are charged ready for use;
- Make sure all aids are kept in a safe place without causing any risks to the service users’ safety.
Medication
Assisting, supporting, administering prescribed medication in line with the organisation’s policies and procedures and the service user’s individual support plan.
Level 1 – verbal assisting (prompt);
Level 2 – assisting (opening packaging as the request of the service user);
Level 3 – fully administering (opening packaging, giving to the service user, and documenting on task list).
- Only administering medication that is prescribed by a GP and dispensed by the pharmacy;
- Reporting any new medication to the Operations Team;
- Always adhering to Eden Care at Home Limited medication policies and procedures;
- Attending medication training on an annual basis compliant with mandatory training requirements;
- Reporting any issues or concerns relating to medication to Operations team and line manager.
Dietary Care
- Preparing snacks and meals according to the services users’ likes and dislikes;
- Assisting with feeding and drinking if needed.
Household Support
- Shopping and preparation of shopping lists;
- Washing, drying and putting away used dishes;
- General light cleaning duties – dusting, polishing and vacuuming;
- Bed Making and changing bed linen;
- Management of refuse and rubbish;
- Laundry and Ironing;
- General cleanliness of the household and tidying up when tasks or activities are completed.
Companionship and emotional support
- Providing social interaction and emotional reassurance;
- Encouraging hobbies and activities.
Support Services
- Accompany to appointments – Dentist / Hospital / Doctors / Hair / etc.
Other
- Ensuring general safety of household and the service user before leaving;
- Making sure all objects are in a suitable and normal place for the service user;
- Recording in the electronic care log at the end of each visit stating the tasks that were achieved;
- Working weekends and bank holidays as normal working days;
- Reporting to Field Care Supervisor immediately, to voice any concerns or changes to the service user’s care or health;
- Wearing uniform, ID Badge at all times;
- Collecting new gloves, masks, aprons, shoe covers and other personal protective equipment from the office as and when required;
- Developing effective working relationships with other employees within Eden Care at Home Limited;
- Being a team player;
- Participating in the business development;
- Maintaining high standards of work and self-image;
- Conforming to all Policies and Procedures set by Eden Care at Home Limited.
Safeguarding
Carrying out all duties with an awareness and understanding of the Safeguarding requirements within the area of responsibility.
Work complies with all safeguarding policies and procedures that apply to the role. Behaviours and actions support the safeguarding of children, young people or adults with care and support needs as appropriate.
Confidentiality
Maintaining confidentiality is a key responsibility for care workers. It involves safeguarding sensitive information and adhering to legal and ethical standards like the Data Protection Act 2018 and GDPR in the UK
- Participating in all training as directed by Eden Care at Home Limited;
- Participating in staff and team review meetings as directed by Eden Care at Home Limited;
- Maintaining accurate and timely records of daily electronic logs of care visits on the Access Care Planning App.
- Eden Care at Home Limited can require you to work with individuals with varying abilities needs, as well as supporting children and adults.
- Holding an up-to-date enhanced DBS to work in regulated activities. Staff must inform Eden care of any engagement with the Police as this may have an impact on your suitability to work.

COVID-Related Duties
- Adhering to COVID regulations in line with Government and Eden Care Eden Care Policies and Procedures;
- Ensuring reasonable steps are followed to protect staff and others from coronavirus (COVID- 19 and variants);
- Identifying and informing managers of work activities or situations that may cause transmission of the virus;
- Adhering to Eden Care policies and procedures relating to the use of Personal Protective Equipment.
