A leading architectural practice is seeking a Senior Technical Leader, who is MCIAT accredited, to join their team in Manchester or Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for a highly experienced Chartered Architectural Technologist to lead technical delivery on residential-led and mixed-use projects across the UK.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead technical design reviews and ensure compliance with Building Regulations, including the Building Safety Act, Fire Safety Act, and CDM 2015.
- Provide expert advice on technical aspects such as fire safety, sustainability, ventilation, and modern construction methods.
- Mentor project teams to ensure designs are practical, buildable, and comply with safety and sustainability standards.
- Establish and maintain technical standards, QA systems, and knowledge management processes.
- Collaborate with contractors, lead procurement processes, and influence project delivery across RIBA stages 3-6.
Experience & Qualifications:
- MCIAT Chartered Architectural Technologist.
- 10+ years of post-qualification experience in technical design, detailing, specification, and construction-stage support.
- Proven experience leading technical delivery on residential-led and mixed-use projects across RIBA stages 3-6.
- Knowledge of the Building Safety Act regime and change control processes.
- Ability to establish technical standards, deliver CPD, and mentor teams.
- Expertise in at least two areas: sustainability/embodied carbon, MMC/modular systems, fire & life safety, ventilation & overheating, external envelopes & moisture.
- In-depth understanding of UK Building Regulations, Approved Documents, and Regulation 7 materials restrictions.
- Ability to act as or advise as Principal Designer under CDM 2015/Building Regulations.
- Strong construction detailing skills, including specification authoring (NBS), product selection, and testing/commissioning.
- Familiarity with warranty provider requirements (NHBC, LABC, etc.) and envelope/physics literacy.
- Strong communication skills for technical reports, presentations, and leading reviews.
