I'm working with a highly respected, sustainability-led building services consultancy to find a talented Lighting Design Engineer to join their specialist Light and Air team in London. This is a rare opportunity to work on some of the most prestigious cultural, educational, workplace and sports projects in the UK and internationally, contributing to beautifully considered architectural lighting and daylight design as part of an integrated engineering approach.
The Role
You'll be part of a specialist team focused on the creative and technical integration of natural and artificial light within buildings. The work goes far beyond traditional lighting design - you'll be encouraged to think holistically about how buildings perform, how they feel to occupy, and how they can use less energy while delivering exceptional design quality.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Designing architectural lighting and daylight strategies for landmark projects
- Running lighting projects and supporting junior team members
- Working directly with clients and leading architects
- Contributing to business development, marketing and winning new work
- Collaborating within a wider multidisciplinary engineering team to deliver truly integrated solutions
This is an environment where inventive thinking is encouraged, and where solving problems differently is part of the culture.
The Team
The Light and Air group is a small, highly specialist team of lighting thinkers, researchers and technical experts, supported by a broader network of engineers across the practice. Their portfolio includes award-winning cultural and civic buildings, internationally recognised arts venues, university facilities and heritage projects.
About You
You're likely to be:
- Creative and technically confident, with strong CAD and lighting analysis skills
- Comfortable illustrating, modelling and writing about design proposals
- Experienced (5+ years) in lighting design, ideally on complex or high-profile buildings with leading architects
- Confident in a client- and design team-facing role
- Qualified to degree level (2:2 or above, or equivalent) in a relevant discipline
- Curious, thoughtful and motivated by making buildings more beautiful, higher performing and lower energy
The Practice
This consultancy is widely recognised for its leadership in sustainable design. Environmental responsibility isn't an add-on - it's embedded in how projects are approached and delivered. The business is employee-owned, collaborative by nature, and deeply committed to addressing the climate and biodiversity challenges facing the built environment.
The culture is open, supportive and inclusive, with a strong emphasis on shared learning, professional development and collective responsibility.
What's On Offer
- Excellent career development in a knowledge-driven environment
- Mentored support towards professional accreditation
- Annual professional membership subscription
- Technically challenging, design-led projects
- Flexible working arrangements
- Competitive salary and bonus
- Opportunities to be involved in the running of the business
