Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Speech and Language Therapist to manage a complex caseload in an inpatient setting. The role involves delivering high-quality, person-centred assessment and intervention for residents with communication and swallowing difficulties. You will take full personal, professional, and legal responsibility for your own specialist caseload, working independently while providing guidance to junior staff and collaborating closely with the multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed communication and swallowing assessments using formal and informal tools.
  • Deliver evidence-based therapy interventions and manage individual programmes, including PEG feeding where required.
  • Support residents, families, and carers, ensuring safe and effective communication and swallowing strategies.
  • Lead therapeutic groups and train therapy assistants and care staff.
  • Contribute to care planning, MDT meetings, and service development.
  • Provide clinical leadership and support colleagues in delivering therapy programmes.
  • Work alongside psychology colleagues on complex capacity issues and support positive outcomes through clinical reasoning, negotiation, and problem-solving.
  • Supervise staff to ensure high standards of care.
