Hertfordshire Children's Services is offering an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Practitioner to join the Front Door Gateway Service within the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH). This role is ideal for confident, skilled social workers who are passionate about making a real difference to the lives of vulnerable children, young people and their families. The service is part of an authority rated Outstanding by Ofsted and aims to provide a timely, proportionate response to safeguarding concerns and early help requests.
Responsibilities
- Triage and screen contacts requiring safeguarding or early help responses
- Provide management direction and oversight on incoming contacts
- Line manage a small team of Social Workers or CIAOs
- Allocate work and ensure timely, effective decision-making
- Authorise outcomes and recommendations for children and families
- Monitor progress of contacts and agree clear plans of action
- Offer reflective supervision, guidance and support to staff
- Maintain a calm, child-focused approach when managing complex and high-risk situations
This is a fast-paced role, suitable for practitioners who enjoy variety, challenge and responsibility while keeping the child's needs at the centre of practice.
Requirements
- Social Work England (SWE) registration – essential
- Minimum of 3 years' post-qualifying experience in statutory children's social work
- Strong experience in front door, MASH, safeguarding or triage work
- Proven ability to supervise, support and lead staff
- Confident decision-maker with excellent risk assessment skills
