Experienced Social Worker - Exploitation and Missing Team

Peterborough City Council is seeking an Experienced Social Worker to join their Exploitation and Missing Team, part of the Young People's Safeguarding Service. This is an excellent opportunity to work within a specialist team focused on child exploitation, missing episodes, trafficking, and contextual safeguarding.

Role Details:

  • Pay Rate: £39 per hour (£288.60 per day)
  • Location: Sand Martin House, Peterborough
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid
  • Office Attendance: Minimum 2 days per week (service dependent)
  • Additional Requirements: Community visits and multi-agency meetings as required

About the Role:

As a Social Worker within the Exploitation and Missing Team, you will play a vital role in safeguarding children and young people who are vulnerable to exploitation, trafficking, and repeated missing episodes. You will work directly with children, families, carers, and partner agencies to assess risks, develop effective safeguarding strategies, and improve long-term outcomes using trauma-informed and relationship-based practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build trusted relationships with vulnerable children and young people
  • Use trauma-informed approaches to understand experiences of exploitation
  • Respond to children reported missing from home or care
  • Conduct timely Return Home Interviews to understand reasons for missing episodes
  • Identify push and pull factors contributing to exploitation and missing behaviour
  • Provide oversight of Return Home Interviews to inform safeguarding planning
  • Contribute to Child Protection and safeguarding plans
  • Attend Strategy Meetings and safeguarding discussions
  • Attend weekly Risk Outside The Home Panels
  • Attend Monthly Multi-Agency Child Exploitation (MACE) meetings
  • Work closely with police, health, education, youth justice, and third-sector partners
  • Share safeguarding intelligence appropriately across agencies
  • Provide support and oversight for missing workers
  • Deliver safeguarding and exploitation training to professionals across Peterborough
  • Maintain Social Work England registration and engage in continuous professional development

Essential Requirements:

  • Qualified Social Worker with Social Work Degree (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent)
  • Active Social Work England Registration
  • Minimum 3+ years PQE within Children's Services in England Local Authority
  • Strong safeguarding experience within Child Protection, Exploitation, Missing, or Contextual Safeguarding
  • Experience working with children vulnerable to exploitation, missing episodes, and extra-familial harm
  • Strong multi-agency working and partnership-building skills
  • Excellent assessment, communication, and risk management skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex safeguarding cases
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
