City of Wolverhampton Council is seeking an exceptional senior leader to take on the role of Head of Safeguarding and Ageing Well on an interim maternity cover basis. This is a pivotal leadership position within Adult Services, offering the opportunity to shape, influence, and drive high-quality safeguarding and ageing well provision across the city.

About the Role

As the Head of Safeguarding and Ageing Well, you will lead the strategic and operational development of services that support some of Wolverhampton's most vulnerable adults. You will ensure services are compliant, innovative, and aligned with both local and national priorities.

Working closely with internal teams, health partners, and external stakeholders, you will champion excellence, transformation, and continuous improvement across the safeguarding and ageing well landscape.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the strategic and operational development of Safeguarding and Ageing Well services, ensuring the highest standards of delivery.
  • Set the strategic direction of the service, anticipating changes and evaluating risks and opportunities in partnership with health colleagues.
  • Foster a high-performance culture focused on efficiency, continuous improvement, and value for money.
  • Provide strong leadership to the workforce, ensuring effective deployment, support, training, and development aligned with health and social care priorities.
  • Develop and implement service plans that meet statutory requirements, local and national targets, and quality standards.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with partners, ensuring seamless joint working and robust quality assurance systems.
  • Act as a key member of the Adult Leadership Team, contributing to wider strategic planning and service development.

Essential Requirements

  • Social Work Qualification - Degree or equivalent.
  • Extensive senior-level experience within Adult Social Care, including Safeguarding, Quality Assurance, or Ageing Well services.
  • Proven track record of leading multi-disciplinary teams and driving service improvement.
  • Strong understanding of statutory responsibilities, Care Act compliance, and safeguarding frameworks.
  • Experience working in or with a Local Authority or NHS partner organisation at a strategic level.
  • Social Work England Registration.
  • Driving licence and access to your own vehicle.
