Hertfordshire County Council is looking for an experienced Child Protection Chair to join their service on a hybrid working basis, supporting children and families through high-quality safeguarding practice within the Family Safeguarding model.

Role Details:

  • Location: Hertfordshire County Council
  • Pay Rate: £45.50 per hour
  • Working Pattern: Hybrid
  • Hours: 37 hours per week
  • Business Hours: 9:00am - 5:00pm (4:30pm finish on Fridays)
  • Enhanced DBS Required

About the Role:

You will chair multi-agency Child Protection Conferences in line with national guidance and local procedures, making informed threshold decisions for Child Protection plans and ensuring children and families receive timely, effective support.

You will be responsible for:

  • Chairing Child Protection Conferences and complex multi-agency meetings
  • Making evidence-based threshold decisions for Child Protection
  • Developing SMART Child Protection plans focused on harm reduction
  • Completing quality assurance checks, audits, and case file reviews
  • Providing specialist consultation to social workers and managers
  • Supporting CIN planning and threshold decision-making
  • Delivering training to ASYE social workers and multi-agency partners
  • Supporting CLA services with emergency planning and disruption meetings
  • Challenging practice where necessary to improve outcomes for children

Essential Requirements:

  • Social Work Degree (DipSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent)
  • Social Work England Registration
  • Enhanced DBS
  • Minimum 5+ years post-qualified experience within Children and Families Services
  • Strong experience at Team Leader, Practice Supervisor, or equivalent level
  • Experience of chairing complex safeguarding and multi-agency meetings
  • Strong knowledge of Child Protection legislation, safeguarding frameworks, and thresholds
  • Experience of supervision and management responsibilities
  • Full UK Driving Licence preferred
