Reporting To: Mortuary and Bereavement Service Manager

Role Summary: We are currently supporting recruitment for experienced Anatomical Pathology Technologists (APTs) and Mortuary Assistants to work within a hospital-based mortuary environment. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with mortuary experience to join a supportive and professionally regulated team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Anatomical Pathology Technologists (APT): Assist with post-mortem examinations under the supervision of a pathologist; Prepare and reconstruct bodies for viewing; Undertake specimen collection, preservation and documentation in line with HTA regulations; Maintain cleanliness, stock control and infection control within the mortuary.
  • Mortuary Assistants: Support mortuary operations including body admission, release and identification procedures; Maintain accurate records and handle sensitive information professionally; Liaise with hospital teams, bereaved families, and funeral directors.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a hospital mortuary environment
  • Level 3 Diploma in Anatomical Pathology Technology (for APTs)
  • Strong knowledge of Human Tissue Act 2004 (desirable)
  • Respectful and professional approach with excellent attention to detail
  • DBS clearance (Enhanced) required
