Senior Project Manager - Infrastructure (Water / Environment)

We are working with a well-established, multidisciplinary infrastructure consultancy to recruit a Senior Project Manager to support the delivery of major capital programmes across the Water and Environment sectors, based in the Midlands.

This is a client-facing, consultancy role offering long-term career progression across regulated UK infrastructure sectors including Water, Environment, Rail, and Nuclear.

The Role

Reporting to the UK Project Management Delivery Lead, the Senior Project Manager will be responsible for delivering end-to-end project management services for water companies and environmental bodies, operating client-side on complex, high-value programmes.

The successful candidate will bring strong NEC3/NEC4 contract management expertise, experience across the full project lifecycle, and the ability to lead and influence multidisciplinary stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

General

  • Client-side management and administration of NEC3 / NEC4 ECC contracts (Options A, C & E)
  • Budget control and cost management
  • Working closely with Commercial and Quantity Surveying teams on:
    • Monthly payment valuations and certifications under ECC and PSC contracts
    • Actual cost forecasting and Defined Cost determination
  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Maintaining robust project and commercial records in line with contract requirements
  • Preparing and issuing contractual correspondence, including:
    • Early Warning Notices
    • Compensation Event notifications
    • General contractual communications in line with best practice

Pre-Contract Activities

  • Project scoping, feasibility studies, and cost estimates
  • Preparation of tender documentationTender evaluation and recommendation
  • Identification of project risks and development of mitigation strategies
  • Early engagement with contractors during the design phase (ECI / ESI)

Post-Contract Activities

  • Administration of construction contracts
  • Monitoring of project expenditure and cashflow
  • Leading the assessment and negotiation of variations and change control
  • Claims management and dispute resolution
  • Final accounts and post-project evaluation

About You

To be considered for this role, you will have:

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in a numerate discipline
  • Full membership of a recognised professional body (e.g. MAPM or equivalent)
  • Significant post-graduate experience in Water, Environment, Rail and/or Nuclear sectors
  • Proven client-side experience, including work for a main contractor and/or joint venture
  • Strong working knowledge of the NEC3/NEC4 suite of contracts (Options A, C & E essential)
  • Experience with Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and/or Early Subcontractor Involvement (ESI)
  • Line management and mentoring experience
  • Sound knowledge of CDM Regulations
  • Strong risk management capability
  • Valid CSCS card (Water Hygiene card desirable)
  • Right to work in the UK
  • Willingness to work on-site 3 days per week in the Midlands
