THE ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
We are seeking a dynamic Associate Director to lead and ensure high quality engineering performance. You will be required to have a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles and familiarity with other business disciplines. You will oversee the full Mechanical Design process with responsibility for the following:

  • Lead and oversee delivery of Mechanical Engineering design from feasibility through to construction across multiple projects.
  • Take responsibility for high-quality, technically robust project delivery, independently or within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Act as Project Leader where required, ensuring projects meet client brief, programme, and budget.
  • Ensure projects are delivered profitably and in line with commercial and contractual requirements.
  • Manage and review design work, ensuring compliance with standards, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain high technical standards and provide quality control across all mechanical outputs.
  • Lead complex technical input and support innovation and best practice adoption.
  • Mentor and develop engineers at all levels, supporting team growth and performance.
  • Oversee team resourcing, workload planning, and coordination with internal departments.
  • Lead liaison with BIM and modelling teams on M&E drawing production and delivery.
  • Maintain and develop strong client relationships and act as a senior point of contact.
  • Represent EDC at meetings, workshops, site visits, and industry engagements.
  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and offices to support efficient project delivery.
  • Support business development activities including bids and client engagement.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director and senior leadership team on project delivery, resourcing, and strategic priorities.
  • Report to management on project, team, and financial performance.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development, reputation, and strategic growth of EDC.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
Minimum Degree level in Mechanical Engineering with project management and Master’s qualification desirable.
6+ years Building Services Consultancy Design experience.
3+ years Team Management experience.
Proven experience in delivering detailed designs through the full design cycle.
Expert knowledge and experience in Water Services, Heating / LTHW, HVAC, Fuel, Above ground Drainage and BMS.
Experience in BIM, Energy Assessments and Modelling software will be advantageous.
Chartership Desirable.
Commercial savviness essential.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Proven capability in effectively managing and leading several projects and high performing teams simultaneously whilst showing the ability to prioritise, plan work and make disciplined decisions.
Excellent attention to detail and interpersonal skills.
Expert knowledge in all Mechanical design areas, deep knowledge of Irish and UK Building Regulations and a good understanding of other building disciplines in the design and installation of Buildings.
Exhibit Leadership qualities whilst working as part of a team.
Responsibility for project performances, including satisfied clients, profitable projects and maintaining EDC’s reputation to enable repeat work.
