We're working with a well-established organisation that has made significant investment in its VMware and Nutanix infrastructure. Following a major programme of upgrades, platform modernisation and hardware refreshes, they're now looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to take ownership of the virtualisation estate and help drive operational excellence.

This is an excellent opportunity for a VMware specialist with Nutanix experience to join a highly skilled infrastructure team and play a key role in maintaining, optimising and evolving a business-critical platform.

The Role

You'll be responsible for the day-to-day ownership of the VMware and Nutanix environments, ensuring they remain secure, resilient and performing at their best. Alongside platform administration, you'll provide technical leadership, produce high-quality documentation and support the wider infrastructure team through knowledge sharing and best practice.

Key Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the VMware and Nutanix infrastructure.
  • Maintain platform health, performance and availability.
  • Plan and implement VMware, Nutanix, firmware and infrastructure upgrades.
  • Perform patching, lifecycle management and proactive maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues and act as the senior technical escalation point.
  • Produce and maintain both operational and design documentation.
  • Work closely with infrastructure, networking and security teams.
  • Contribute to disaster recovery, resilience and business continuity planning.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and improve operational processes.
  • Mentor and upskill members of the internal infrastructure team.

Skills & Experience

We're particularly interested in candidates with:

  • Strong commercial experience administering enterprise VMware environments.
  • Hands-on experience with VMware vSphere, ESXi and vCenter.
  • Experience supporting Nutanix AHV environments.
  • Knowledge of hyper-converged infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience with firmware upgrades, lifecycle management and patching.
  • Strong understanding of high availability, clustering and disaster recovery.
  • Windows Server infrastructure experience.
  • PowerShell scripting and automation experience would be advantageous.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation and communication skills.
