We are recruiting for a heritage consultant to join our established heritage team. The role will provide someone with the opportunity to undertake Desk-Based Assessments, Heritage Statements and settings assessments, and to contribute to the preparation of multi-disciplinary consultancy documents for a wide range of projects. Based in our Basingstoke office, the role offers an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and grow their expertise within a company that values high professional standards. Candidates will be expected to have strong subject knowledge and demonstrable skills and experience in assessing the historic environment. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of, and report to, our Senior Heritage Consultant, who will provide continual support and guidance. The post-holder will be responsible for concurrent projects and for the commercial success of their work. Experience of writing desk-based assessments and heritage statements, and effective consultation with stakeholders is required and the candidate is expected to maintain a professional conduct at all times. Candidates should expect to work in a range of different outdoor and indoor environments and away from the office, including conducting site visits sometimes to remote locations.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Experience of working with all aspects of the historic environment, including historic buildings and landscapes
  • Proven report writing skills
  • Experience in preparation of assessments of heritage significance and setting
  • Experience of a variety of clients and projects
  • Membership of a relevant professional body
  • Working knowledge of national legislation and planning policy in respect to the historic environment and related professional standards and guidance
  • Experience in the use of GIS would be advantageous
  • Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and work proactively and flexibly in support of changing workloads
  • Full driving licence and willingness to drive
