ECS Resource Group are currently working in partnership with a global managed service provider, assisting them with the search for a Packet Core Engineer on a contract basis. We are looking for an experienced Packet Core Engineer to join a leading telecommunications organisation, playing a key role in the design, delivery and lifecycle management of next-generation Packet Core services. You will be responsible for ensuring the performance, scalability and resilience of critical mobile core platforms supporting 4G, 5G Standalone (5G SA), IoT and enterprise connectivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, implement and manage Packet Core platforms including MME, AMF, SGSN, GGSN, SGW, PGW, UPF, IPX/GRX Gateways, Gi/SGi-LAN, Carrier Grade NAT, DNS and Security Gateways, ensuring highly available, secure and scalable network services.
- Lead the delivery, integration and lifecycle management of Packet Core solutions, supporting network transformation initiatives including EPC to 5G Core migration, NFV adoption and cloud-native deployments.
- Work collaboratively with Architecture, Operations, Strategy and Delivery teams to ensure solutions meet business requirements whilst maintaining high standards of network performance, resilience and regulatory compliance.
- Drive continuous improvement through automation, traffic optimisation, policy management and proactive performance monitoring, investigating complex network issues through to long-term resolution.
- Manage relationships with technology vendors and key stakeholders whilst supporting roaming, interconnect, peering and enterprise connectivity initiatives across the mobile core network.
Key Skills:
- Strong experience designing and supporting Packet Core technologies including MME, AMF, SGSN, GGSN, SGW, PGW, UPF, IPX/GRX, Gi/SGi-LAN, NAT, DPI and related gateway technologies.
- Excellent understanding of end-to-end 3G, LTE, EPC and 5G Standalone (5G SA) architectures, including mobility management, signalling, policy control, QoS and data plane optimisation.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native networking, NFV, Kubernetes, containerisation, automation tools such as Ansible and CI/CD pipelines.
- Proven background delivering large-scale telecoms transformation programmes, including EPC to 5G Core migration, virtualisation and cloud-based network deployments.
- Strong stakeholder management, analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work across multiple technical domains and engage effectively with internal teams, vendors and external partners.
