I am working with one of the world’s largest and most well-known & respected manufacturing companies with a fantastic reputation globally for innovation and quality. They have an exciting opportunity to join their team in Skelmersdale as a Laboratory Test Technician on a six-month contract basis.
Experience Required
- Conduct hands-on testing of Respiratory Protection and Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) equipment to ensure full compliance with EN standards while supporting the development of new products.
- Deliver development, qualification, pre-compliance and audit testing to support both existing and future certifications for respiratory protection products.
- Interpret and apply complex test methods, updating documentation and procedures where improvements or updates are required.
- Work closely with external test laboratories to refine testing procedures and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
- Support calibration schedules for test equipment while assisting with safety audits and risk assessments within the laboratory environment.
- Manage consumables and ensure laboratory equipment and resources remain fully operational.
- Collaborate across the wider R&D function, working closely with product engineers, product developers and certification and compliance teams.
- Support the Quality Management System to maintain laboratory accreditation and product certification standards.
- Confident user of Microsoft Word, Excel and Teams.
Additional Experience Required
- Strong understanding of respiratory protection and SCBA products, including performance requirements, testing processes and release criteria.
- Working knowledge of respiratory protection testing requirements and the regulatory standards that govern them.
- Awareness of EN standards relating to respiratory and SCBA product testing.
- Understanding of gas and vapour testing methods used to assess respiratory protection equipment.
- Familiarity with a range of respiratory protection technologies including reusable respirators, powered air systems, supplied air solutions and SCBA.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly.
- High attention to detail with a methodical and structured approach to testing and analysis.
- Strong analytical capability with the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into meaningful insights.
- Proficient in Minitab with confidence working with statistical data and test results.

- Educated to degree level or higher
- HNC/HND/Degree in Engineering
