Length: 6-Week Contract
We're currently seeking an experienced SMTP Messaging Infrastructure Consultant to undertake a specialist assessment of a large-scale enterprise email environment. This is a short-term consultancy engagement focused on reviewing an organisation's SMTP backbone infrastructure from an outside-in perspective, assessing its alignment with industry best practices, security standards, resilience requirements, and operational effectiveness. The successful consultant will provide expert recommendations for improving the existing email architecture, identifying risks, gaps, and opportunities for optimisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess enterprise SMTP and email messaging infrastructure.
- Review email routing, relay services, gateways, and mail flow architecture.
- Evaluate existing configurations against industry standards and best practices.
- Review email security, hygiene, resilience, and operational effectiveness.
- Identify risks, vulnerabilities, and areas for improvement.
- Produce recommendations and technical guidance for future-state improvements.
- Engage with technical stakeholders to understand the current environment and provide expert consultancy.
Essential Skills & Experience
- Strong background in enterprise email and messaging infrastructure.
- Extensive SMTP knowledge and experience.
- Hands-on experience with: Sendmail, Postfix, Email relay services.
- Strong Linux administration skills, ideally Red Hat (RHEL).
- Experience with email gateway and email security platforms, including: Proofpoint (highly desirable), Cisco IronPort / Cisco Secure Email.
- Strong understanding of mail routing, relay configurations, email security, and email hygiene services.
- Experience conducting infrastructure reviews, assessments, or architecture evaluations.
