Responsibilities and Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience as an Electrical Estimator.
  • Understanding of electrical installation practices across infrastructure and industrial environments.
  • Experience working within live/operational environments, including understanding of outage constraints and sequencing.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience to assess and cost installation labour and resource requirements for site‑based works, including labour costs associated with refurbishment or upgrade works to operational assets.
  • Ability to develop and challenge installation methodologies to optimise cost and programme.
  • Ability to review drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
  • Ability to measure elements of works, complete material take‑offs, and create itemised Bills of Quantities as necessary.
  • Ability to review, prepare, and submit electrical tenders and/or estimates, ensuring all return date deadlines are met.
  • Ability to prepare clear tender submissions and cost breakdowns, request extensions to return dates, and create RFIs as required to fulfil project requirements.
  • Ability to identify risks, cost savings and value engineering opportunities.
  • Ability to finalise tender bids, attend pre‑order meetings, secure contracts, and hand over packages to M&E Project Managers.
  • Attendance at sites to complete detailed surveys where required.
  • Strong understanding of SHEQ requirements and their impact on installation methodologies, cost planning, and constraints.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to produce clear and persuasive technical and commercial documentation.
  • Excellent organisational skills and ability to manage multiple tenders concurrently in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • IT proficiency, including Microsoft Office; experience with estimating or project costing software advantageous.
  • Experience maintaining proper records using estimating software and Microsoft Office suite tools.
  • Level 4/5 qualification (HNC/HND or equivalent) in Electrical Building Services Engineering – Electrical or a related discipline, and/or time‑served approved Electrician/QS.
  • Ability to undertake basic cable sizing, voltage drop and protection calculations sufficient to inform pricing and verify design assumptions.
  • Familiarity with digital estimating tools and databases such as Trimble, Amtech and Electrical OM.
  • Experience using Trimble Electrical Designer software would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of carbon costing and sustainable design considerations in estimating.
  • Understanding of electrical installation requirements across multiple sectors including Water Management, Water Utilities and Power/Industrial.
  • Working knowledge of design and installation considerations for low‑voltage systems in industrial or hazardous environments.
