Fish Farm Assistant- Starting Salary £28,000 (Increasing After Successful 6 Month Probation) - Harome, North Yorkshire

The Role

Do you have experience working in fish farming or food production? Are you reliable, hardworking and ready to be part of a dedicated team? If so, this could be the perfect opportunity for you!

We are looking for a Fish Farm Assistant to join our team and help maintain day-to-day farm operations.

This role is key in ensuring the farm meets customer requirements while working to the standards set out in our Quality Management System. You will be directly involved in fish husbandry, site maintenance, and supporting harvest operations.

This is a full-time role working 40 hours per week, including 1 weekend in 4 on rotation. Hours are:

  • 07:00 – 15:30 Monday, Wednesday & Thursday (harvesting days)
  • 08:00 – 16:30 Tuesday & Friday

Finishing times will need to be flexible due to working with livestock.

This is a great chance to be part of a dedicated team, helping to keep the farm running smoothly and to the highest standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain water flow and monitor aeration/oxygen systems.
  • Feed fish in line with agreed schedules.
  • Move and grade fish, as well as support harvesting.
  • Monitor fish health and report any concerns to management.
  • Carry out farm maintenance including ponds, screens and infrastructure.
  • Keep accurate records and complete necessary forms.
  • Follow company policies and procedures, including health and safety requirements.

The Company

Harome Trout Farm is based in North Yorkshire, near the market town of Helmsley and close to the North York Moors N Park

We produce over 300 tonnes of portion sized Rainbow Trout per year for a major retailer and we are looking for a dedicated individual to join our small team.

Harome Trout Farm is supplied by ground source water of consistent temperature allowing us to maintain a high level of production all year round which needs careful and accurate planning to fulfil the demands of the customer.

The Person

  • Previous experience in fish farming or food production operations is desirable but not essential.
  • Good organisational and planning skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Understanding of HACCP, Quality Assurance and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Basic maths skills.
  • Be able to meet the challenge of this physically demanding role.
