Do you have strong bookkeeping experience and confidence using Xero or similar accounting software? Are you detail-focused, organised and comfortable supporting month-end, VAT, payroll and supplier payments?

The role is to support day-to-day accounting activity and periodic close requirements. This is a part-time role, working 24 hours per week. The role will mainly be office based, close to Liverpool Lime Street station. Reporting to the CFO, you will work alongside external accounting, tax and payroll providers. You will help keep financial records accurate, make sure deadlines are met and support a growing finance function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping in Xero
  • Process customer and supplier invoices
  • Post cash transactions and regular journals
  • Manage supplier invoices in Dext and ApprovalMax
  • Allocate invoices to the correct Xero account codes and tracking categories
  • Prepare supplier payments and make sure approvals are in place
  • Create payments in online banking software
  • Review, analyse and settle staff expenses
  • Support payroll through an external payroll provider
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
  • Support external financial and other audits when required
  • Respond to queries from customers, vendors and employees

The person

You will be confident, accurate and organised, with strong experience in a similar finance role. You will need:

  • At least 5 years experience in an equivalent role
  • Strong knowledge of Xero or similar accounting software
  • Understanding of purchase orders, invoices, bank payments, VAT, payroll and journals
  • Experience with month-end close, foreign exchange, payroll and VAT
  • Excellent administration skills and attention to detail
  • A positive and solution-focused approach
  • A professional qualification such as AAT, CIMA or ACCA would be desirable
  • Experience with Dext, ApprovalMax and outsourced finance providers would also be helpful
