Main Purpose: Provide a safe environment for the movement of prisoners within the court building ensuring their welfare.

Main responsibilities:

  • Primarily responsible for the high standards of safety and welfare of Prisoners in their care, especially those identified as vulnerable or with other special needs.
  • Carry out Custody Area opening and closing checks, and general security checks throughout the day.
  • Escort Prisoners to and from vehicles and Custody Areas in a safe and secure manner.
  • Search Prisoners and cells to ensure that security and safety are maintained.
  • Identify and deal with Prisoners to reduce risks to safety and security, and to maintain good order and discipline.
  • Accurate collation of relevant documentation in relation to all Prisoners.
  • Escort Prisoners to and from the Court in a safe and secure manner.
  • Carry out the duties of a dock officer.
  • Provide Prisoners with refreshments in line with requirements.
  • Help supervise official visits to Prisoners as required.
  • Carry out cell patrols to ensure that safety and security are maintained.
  • Observe Prisoners in cells within the Custody Area at the designated Court.
