Head of Medical Underwriter – Financial Services
Our client is a dynamic & ambitious Financial Services business on an end-to-end transformation journey across technology, operations and culture. They require a Pragmatic leader to own the corporate responsibility for all things medical underwriting. You will have the opportunity to develop a commercially focused underwriting team to drive the claims philosophy, streamlining the process and ensuring its implementation, taking ownership of its success.
Our client hires self-starters , who own their areas and are HIGHLY collaborative . They are seeking the right individual to be dynamic and have a strong track record of working in fast-moving, challenging environments.
This role requires a Leading Medical Underwriter with the following key skills being a MUST-have :
- Expertise in Medical Underwriting – including genetics, complex risk factors, and cross-product knowledge.
- Claims Management Leadership – strong decision-making in complex or contentious claims.
- Strategic Policy Development – sets and embeds underwriting/claims philosophies aligned with commercial goals.
- Regulatory and Compliance Knowledge – deep understanding of UK regulations (ABI, FOS) and audit requirements.
- Tech-Savvy and Data-Driven – champions automation, data-led decision-making, and tech adoption in underwriting.
- Research & Analytical Capability – leads mortality/longevity research and rules-based underwriting development.
- Stakeholder & Reinsurer Engagement – builds strong external relationships, representing the business credibly.
- Team Leadership & Development – coaches a small team, building operational capability and expertise.
- Operational Excellence – drives consistency, efficiency, and continuous process improvement.
- Strong Influencer & Communicator – able to secure cross-functional buy-in and articulate complex technical ideas clearly.
