Ecosse Professional Services client is a leading company in the processing, energy and utilities sector. This is a newly created role and a critical appointment for the Group. The Operations manager will sit on the Senior Leadership Team alongside the Managing Director, Sales Director, and Finance Director. The role is responsible for the entire operational backbone of the Group – spanning instrumentation services, customer success, engineering, supply chain, warehouse, and software delivery. The successful candidate will be an experienced operations leader, comfortable working in a technical environment with a strong service and delivery culture. They will bring rigour, structure and continuous improvement to all operational functions while maintaining the entrepreneurial, customer-focused spirit that has driven organisational growth to date.
Responsibilities:
- Managing a Team of 25+ employees including service engineers, supply chain coordinators, warehouse staff, and software developers across a number of UK sites.
- Lead on Operational Strategy for the group working collaboratively with all key business functions and stakeholders.
- Drive operational performance across the business using clear KPIs and a regular flash reporting cadence.
- Own and improve end-to-end workflows from order intake through delivery, calibration, and customer handover.
- Champion the full utilisation of the ERP system across all operational teams.
- Ensure on-time delivery and first-time-right completion rates are consistently high across field service and in-house calibration.
- Monitor and improve utilisation rates, chargeable hours, repeat visit rates, and van stock management.
- Oversee QHSE compliance and drive a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Manage turnaround times from meter booking-in through to shipment.
Qualifications and Experience Level Required:
- Proven track record as an Operations Manager or Director in a technical services, instrumentation, field engineering, similar industry.
- Strong people leadership skills with experience managing large, diverse operational teams.
- Experienced in driving KPI-based performance management and operational reporting.
- Comfortable working in an ERP environment (experience with Odoo or similar is desirable).
- Excellent commercial acumen and understanding of service margin management.
- Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent workstreams.
- Customer-centric mindset with a drive to deliver excellent service outcomes.
- Familiarity with QHSE frameworks and management systems.
- Experience with ISO 27001, data security, or cloud-based service delivery models.
- Understanding of IoT, smart metering, or data analytics environments.
- Experience within a scaling SME or Group structure with multiple business units.
