About the role

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Commercial Manager to join Northumbrian Water Group, providing dedicated commercial support across the Assets commercial portfolio, helping delivery teams manage contracts, costs, risks and supplier performance effectively. The role will strengthen day-to-day commercial accountability, support the consistent application of governance and commercial processes, and provide proactive input during contract development, implementation and project delivery to improve commercial outcomes and protect value for our organisation. As a Commercial Manager, you will manage contract agreements through their entire lifecycle to maximise operational and financial performance while minimising legal and commercial risk, supporting the resolution of contractual issues, escalations and disputes. You will help delivery teams establish robust commercial and contracting strategies, improve contract quality and embed appropriate controls from the outset. You will ensure the consistent application of commercial governance, contract management standards and agreed commercial processes across delivery teams, projects and supplier relationships. You will monitor real-time expenditure and compare actual costs against projected targets, supporting value protection and informed intervention where cost pressures emerge. You will also monitor contractor performance against contractual obligations and KPIs, including forecast cash flow, and provide clear financial updates to stakeholders and leadership.

About you

If you have experience in commercial contract management within a construction environment either in a Commercial Manager, Cost Manager or Quantity Surveying role, we would love to hear from you! You will have a strong understanding of the NEC suite of contracts, and experience of contract negotiation and administration. You will understand contractual and project governance in relation to commercial matters and have an understanding of legal and contractual principles including liabilities, indemnities and warranties. You will have excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience working in a multi-stakeholder environment.
