This is an exciting opportunity to join one of the largest palaeobiological research groups in the UK on a 23-month fixed term post from October 2026 to August 2028. The successful applicant will support research within the Leverhulme Trust-funded research project ‘New Insights Into Early Mammal Evolution From Exceptional Scottish Fossils’, working together with Professor Richard Butler and Dr Luke Meade at the University of Birmingham, Dr Roger Benson at the American Museum of Natural History, and Dr Elsa Panciroli and Dr Stig Walsh at National Museums Scotland.
The successful applicant will support the project team through contributing to semi-remote annual fieldwork, lab processing of fossil specimens, and the collection and detailed analysis (manual segmentation) and interpretation of computed tomographic (CT) data.
The successful applicant will have a degree in a relevant subject area (e.g. geology, palaeontology, biology) and have extensive practical experience of segmentation and interpretation of CT data (ideally from fossil data) using standard software packages such as Avizo. Experience of effectively managing and organising CT data is also required. They must be willing and able to conduct fieldwork as part of a team in semi-remote areas.
