Bank Lecturer – Home Economics (Support School Placement Visits)

Part Time, Fixed Term, Variable Hours

UHI Perth is one of Scotland’s leading Colleges of Further and Higher Education, and a large partner in Scotland’s newest University, the University of the Highlands and Islands.

We are seeking an experienced teacher of Home Economics to support us with the delivery of the BA Honours Degree in Food, Nutrition and Textiles Education. This opportunity is specifically to join the team who observe and report on students on their Educational Placement visits in secondary schools throughout Scotland.

This innovative degree provides an undergraduate route to a teaching qualification for secondary Home Economics in Scotland. The degree was developed in consultation with the profession to provide graduates to address the national shortage in Home Economics teachers. The programme has now been established for 5 years, and our graduates are now contributing to the profession in schools. We are seeking to enhance our team with an inspiring teacher of Home Economics with evidence of leading curricular innovation in school and ensuring success for pupils in SQA exams for this exciting role.

This role may suit someone who currently has a part-time role as teacher of Home Economics in a school or may have recently retired from the profession. There would be the opportunity to flex this up to 3 or 4 days per week at peak times for those interested in additional hours. The school placements are across Scotland so you must be prepared to be flexible and remote working will be considered.

A knowledge of online Virtual Learning Environments is desired, but training will be provided. As noted, School Placement visits will form part of this role and again full training and support will be provided.

Closing date: 23:45 on Monday 28 July 2025

Interviews will be held week commencing 12 August 2025

This post undertakes regulated work with children and a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme check is required. A check will be made against the list of those barred from working with children.
