- We’re looking for a Consultant or
- Senior
Ecologist tojoin our motivated and growing ecology team in the Midlands office (Wolverhampton) .
As a Senior Ecological Consultant at ADAS, utility companies and developers will look to you for guidance on how to protect nature while they undertake work on sometimes complex infrastructure and housing projects.
You will be confident giving clear instruction, overseeing works, and conducting appropriate assessments and surveys to ensure vulnerable species are considered and kept safe at all stages of development.
We envision the role as a hybrid one – it will be a mix of working at home, out on site, and time in the office spent with your team.
On your first day, you will be assigned a mentor to help you get settled and find your feet.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage ecological projects from inception to delivery, ensuring high technical standards and timely outputs
- Provide clear, pragmatic ecological advice to clients and project teams
• Prepare and oversee technical reports, including
- preliminary ecological appraisals
- ecological impact assessments
- mitigation strategies and biodiversity management plans
- Habitats Regulations assessment screening reports
- protected species reports
- Review, approve and sign off reports produced by the team
- Lead protected species surveys and mentor/train junior ecologists
- Support business development, fee proposals and project management activities
- Work collaboratively with the ecology team to continually improve quality, efficiency and best practice
- You may also be asked to support additional tasks appropriate to a senior role as the company evolves.
Qualifications/Experience
Essential
- Degree or equivalent qualification in ecology or a related discipline
- Associate membership of CIEEM or above.
- Strong working knowledge of UK wildlife legislation, policy , and survey methods.
- Proven experience of managing projects and liaising directly with clients.
- Excellent report writing with a high level of technical accuracy.
- Proactive, organised and able to manage your own workload effectively
- A full driving licence, access to your own vehicle and ability to commute to the office.
- Experience and knowledge in Biodiversity Net Gain and Habitat Condition Assessments.
Desirable
- Holder of at least one protected species licence (e. g. Great Crested Newt, Hazel Dormouse or bats).
- Experience of bat data analysis.
- CSCS card
- Personal Track Safety (PTS) Qualification
- Experience of Great Crested Newt District Licensing or acting as a named ecologist on mitigation licences.
