As a Principal Ecologist, you will join a team of over 50 ecologists with more than 30 years of experience in ecological surveys, assessments, and advisory services across a range of environmental disciplines. You will work on large and diverse projects such as urban and greenfield residential development, highway and rail schemes, power stations, infrastructure, and more, serving clients throughout the UK and internationally.
Role Accountabilities
- You will be accountable for the quality control, coordination and completion of assigned tasks and projects within the business unit or project team.
- You will lead and manage the delivery of projects to meet time, budgetary, and SHEQ targets, manage ecological aspects of client relationships, provide technical advice, and lead by example.
Qualifications & Experience
- Detailed knowledge of ecological principles, biodiversity metrics, and environmental impact assessment legislation.
- In-depth knowledge of specific plant or animal groups and appropriate field survey skills.
- Proven track record in writing and delivering Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (PEAs), Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) assessments, Ecological Impact Assessments (EcIAs), and Ecology Chapters for Environmental Statements.
- Proven track record in writing Habitat Regulation Assessments (HRAs) at project or plan level.
- Excellent commercial and project management skills for a range of project sizes.
- Proven experience of bid production for projects and client interaction.
- Ability to line‑manage and potentially lead a team.
- Holder of survey and/or mitigation/conservation licenses.
- Experience in designing and complying with biosecurity and health and safety protocols.
- Chartered Environmentalist/Ecologist or demonstrably approaching Chartered Ecologist.
- Full member of CIEEM.
- Willingness to travel as required.
