The Company of Biologists has an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Officer.

The purpose of this role is three-fold: to develop and share best practice for sustainable conferencing, whilst ensuring that the Company's own practices follow this recommended approach; to develop, manage and organise sustainability data collection, analysis and reporting to internal and external stakeholders; and to lead the Company's review and future adoption of relevant SGDs.

Responsibilities Will Include

  • Generation of content for our social media channels and website.
  • Managing the Company's Sustainability initiative's website activity and engagement.
  • Participation in events and on panels to build communities and grow awareness.
  • Sharing conferencing expertise gathered from the community with conference organisers.
  • Collaborating with in-house events team to align our own meetings with sustainability best practice.
  • Leading the review of the Company's environmental impact, including data collection, evaluation of achievable sustainability actions, and assessment of ESG readiness.
  • Support the development and documentation of the Company's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including research, benchmarking, and collation of options, culminating in a Company-wide approach to be adopted.
  • Collaborating with in-house events team to align our own meetings with sustainability best practice.
  • What We Are Looking For
  • Dedication and self-motivation, with evidence of being able to take the initiative and work independently, as well as the ability to support and work collaboratively within a wider team
  • Proven experience in the areas of sustainability/ and/or meeting organisation, community/team building
  • A passion for environmental sustainability issues, with evidence of being able to work independently to research and understand relevant legislation and best practice
  • Ability to communicate at all levels confidently and effectively both verbally and in writing, able to understand the audience and write clear and engaging communications
  • Excellent project management and IT skills - Word, Excel, Power Point and some knowledge of Word Press is desirable.

This full-time role offers a competitive salary and benefits and is based in The Company of Biologists' attractive modern offices on the outskirts of Cambridge, UK.

We offer hybrid working with a split of 50% in the office and up to 50% working from home.
