• Job Title: Biodiversity Conservation Officer
• Terms: Permanent, 39 hours per week
• Location: Heathrow Airport, Hillingdon, London
• Salary: Up to £32,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
• Report to: Ecology & Habitat Management Director

Heathrow is more than just an airport. It holds an estate of 13 biodiversity sites located around the outside of the main airport area. Home to woodlands, grasslands, lakes, ponds, rivers, reedbeds, hedgerows, and scrub, covering some 170ha and home to over 4,200 species. All of which needs managing professionally.

This is an exciting opportunity to work for Europe’s busiest airport in a biodiversity management role helping to maintain the airport’s biodiversity sites. Heathrow airport currently manages these off‑airport sites for the purpose of nature conservation, for which they have received The Wildlife Trusts’ Biodiversity Benchmark Award for over 15 years. The management of these sites is overseen by Ecology & Habitat Management (EHM) Ltd who provide services based at the airport.

Responsibilities

• Work in close association with other BCOs, the Ecology Delivery Manager, the EHM Director, and Heathrow Managers to deliver on‑site management and develop community engagement activities.
• Assist with the management of beehives on behalf of the airport; training will be provided if necessary.
• Work closely with the existing Engineering Environmental team, local partners, and stakeholders – largely field based with an element of office work.
• Assist on wider EHM ecology projects including Phase I habitat surveys, protected species surveys and Biodiversity Net Gain assessments.

• Capable of working independently under minimal supervision.
• A passion for conservation management and engaging people in biodiversity.
