Remote working for UK residents will be considered for this role. We’re Ecological Lighting Solutions - a fast-growing, forward-thinking lighting design practice, based in Cornwall. Our objective is to create beautiful, wildlife-friendly lighting designs. We’re on the hunt for an experienced Lighting Designer who combines technical expertise with an excellent eye for detail, to lead our projects across residential, commercial, industrial, sports, and leisure sectors — with a focus on Dark Skies and ecological requirements.
You’ll be collaborating with architects and ecologists to develop detailed lighting designs using DialuxEvo and AutoCAD. The Role
- You will be responsible for developing lighting design projects from concept to completion, including the following responsibilities:
- Creating suitable design concepts
- Crafting aesthetic, functional, and environmentally sensitive lighting design calculations using DialuxEvo
- Producing detailed layout drawings, with circuitry, via AutoCAD
- Completing luminaire and driver schedules
- Where appropriate, recommending control systems
- Collaborating with clients, ecologists, and architects
- Taking on occasional site visits
- Juggling multiple projects at once and meeting tight deadlines
This post requires a strong understanding of lighting principles, British Standards, and current lighting technology. This role has the opportunity for flexible working, enabling you to balance these responsibilities with your personal commitments.
Qualifications & experience
- Minimum of 5-years’ experience of working in lighting design (more experience is preferable).
- Minimum of a degree qualification in lighting design or a complimentary subject.

- IT savvy: You’re proficient in Dialux Evo and AutoCAD, and comfortable with using Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Specialist knowledge: You have a solid grasp of lighting principles, British Standards and Guidance Notes.
- Communication pro: Your excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills make collaborating with team members and clients smooth and productive.
- Leader: Experience of managing a small team.
