Climate messaging is broken. Scientists agree we’re in crisis, but talking about it directly doesn’t move people to action. We’ve cracked a different approach that actually changes behaviour, and we need a marketing pro who can help us scale it. Do you have 4 hours a week to contribute? What difference will you make? This is a role for someone who is looking for a piece of the action.
Our ideal person would be someone who can devote a day a week to this, but we are small and flexible, so if you’re smashing it out the park one week, but just staying in touch the next, as long as you can average around 4 hours a week, we’ll be happy. We need to find someone local to Westminster, Camden, Hackney or Islington who can turn up once or twice a month, but obviously much of the work can be remote.
The attached manifesto is inconveniently still in need of graphic design work and some more content, but the previous version was so out‑of‑date, you will have to accept our apologies! This is a taster of life on the frontline with volunteers and minimal funding, but please don’t let it put you off.
What are we looking for?
- In‑group and public digital marketing strategies
- Building a narrative / story around our approach
- Optimising the marketing funnel to bring in new donors (open to using other platforms too)
- Various assets like manifestos and pitch decks
- Attracting people to events and workshops
- Article, blog post or social media writing (we need to communicate our existence, our raison d’etre and our approach to the world)
- Input on strategy and planning (we have to balance continuous progress on all fronts while taking advantage of low‑hanging fruit)
Vital points:
- Awareness of the serious nature of the crisis as per the UN IPCC reports (and the contrast to the approach taken by the UK and Net Zero 2050)
- Great desire to see society take a fast, fair and effective rather than expedient approach to climate change and consequent enthusiasm for EcoCounts’s approach
- Ability to work in‑person, online or hybrid
- In‑depth knowledge in any area of marketing, communications and campaigning
- Flexibility and desire to turn your hand to any task
The person we are looking for:
- Can appreciate the wider picture of how we seek to create change
- Has the availability to commit to it long‑term
- Likes co‑operation, exchange of ideas, flexibility, agility
- Can put their ideas across clearly while seeking first to understand others
- Can average 4 hours a week
We are just a small charity but we think there is massive scope to shift the narrative on climate change where other organisations have failed. We’re looking for broad help with the marketing and communications across reports, social media, newsletters, and articles, as well as refining our voice and narrative‑building. Our goal for 2026 is to build up our local group of activists who watch their carbon footprint and sustainability levels, build relationships with councils and other collaborators, and win grants, pitches and crowdfunding. Obviously to succeed, we will have to get our marketing, communications and branding right, so we will need someone who’s got knowledge and experience to help us create a smart and effective campaign.
