Teacher of the Deaf based in Mansfield.

Summary

As a Teacher of the Deaf, you will be instrumental in providing specialized education and support to students who use sign language, who do and do not use speech. Reporting to the school's administration, your role focuses on developing tailored lesson plans that enhance learning and promote independence. Strong communication skills are essential as you collaborate with parents, educators, and specialists to create an inclusive environment. Your expertise in teaching methodologies and adaptive technologies will empower students to achieve their full potential, making a significant impact on their educational journey and personal growth. Responsibilities

  • Supporting D/deaf learners and young people with hearing loss and their families across the age range 16 -25
  • Lead on assessment for D/deaf and hard of hearing learners
  • Support the educational development and inclusion of the learners referred to the team
  • Monitoring, delivering interventions and advise on an allocated caseload
  • Support staff development by team teaching to ensure D/deaf learners can access the full curriculum
  • Use a range of communication methods, including British Sign Language (BSL), Sign Supported English (SSE) and other assistive technologies
  • Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages participation and engagement
  • Monitor and assess learner progress, providing regular feedback and individualised support
  • Collaborate with delivery teachers, support staff, and parents to create comprehensive educational plans
  • Provide training and support to staff on best practices for working with deaf students
  • Manage a team of Communication Support Workers, providing operational support and professional development opportunities
  • Manage resources and follow the procedures for procurement of resources to support the provision for D/deaf and Hard-of-hearing learners.

Qualifications needed

  • Qualified Teacher of the Deaf or working towards the qualification ( level 7, Specialist Teacher)
  • British Sign Language (BSL) at minimum of Level 3

  • Proven application of knowledge and experience of current specialist educational needs, processes, legislation and code of practice
  • Experience working with D/deaf learners in educational setting
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patience, empathy and a positive attitude towards working with learners of varied cognitive abilities
  • Experience of managing a complex caseload
  • Able to work collaboratively at all levels
  • Experience of multi-agency working and have confidence in advising, supporting and making sound judgements on strategies to meet the needs of learners
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to ensure successful relationships are built and maintained with external agencies
  • The ability to use specialist technology associated with educational audiology for D/deaf learners and work closely with the team around the learner to ensure equipment is used effectively and outcomes achieved

Working Hours

The working hours for this role are Monday to Friday 37.5 hours per week.

Successful applicants will be required to undertake an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and to provide proof of their right to work in the UK.

Salary

£44,000-£52,846 per year (pay award pending to £55,488)
