As a Senior Modeler in the Fugro metocean modeling team you will work with advanced numerical models to produce reliable hindcasts and forecasts that support major projects in offshore energy, renewable energy and coastal engineering. You will also contribute to coastal resilience studies that help communities and industries plan for a changing climate. Your work will be part of a collaborative team that values clear analysis, sound judgement and high-quality reporting. This role also offers the chance to guide how the team uses cloud based high performance computing. You will oversee the use of computing resources, encourage efficient working practices and help ensure that the team follows internal standards. You will work with colleagues across the business and with clients who rely on accurate and well-presented metocean information.

Your role and responsibilities:

  • Implement and run numerical metocean models in hindcast and forecast modes
  • Review and validate model setups and outputs to ensure they are robust and suitable for project needs
  • Analyze metocean model results during project execution and at completion
  • Produce clear technical reports that meet internal standards and delivery deadlines
  • Manage the modeling teams use of cloud based high performance computing resources including compute instances storage and networking
  • Monitor performance utilization and compliance of cloud resources and resolve issues through direct action or by contacting support teams
  • Work with internal teams to ensure modeling solutions align with project goals
  • Engage with clients when needed to understand requirements and present modeling outputs
  • Support junior modelers through guidance and knowledge sharing
  • Identify and implement improvements to modeling methods workflows and quality systems

What you’ll need to thrive in this role:

  • Master degree in oceanography or a related discipline
  • Experience using numerical models such as WAVEWATCHIII, SWAN D3D and HYCOM
  • Ability to review and assess model setups for different applications and regions
  • Experience working with unstructured grids is desirable
  • Strong programming skills in Linux, MATLAB and Python
  • Experience working in a Linux cloud environment using compute instances storage and networking
  • Ability to analyze metocean data and interpret model outputs
  • Ability to write clear technical reports in English
  • Experience working independently and within a team
  • Ability to engage with clients and understand project needs
  • Interest in expanding knowledge of cloud based high performance computing
  • Experience with SUNTANS or MITgcm is welcomed
