Designing test rigs and related strategies for sensor characterisation in Cambridge; to £58k + benefits. This role combines practical electronics, mechanical and software aspects to develop test rigs for the verification and characterisation of novel sensors, so you will need to be an experienced and adaptable hardware test engineer, and happy taking the initiative on coming up with solutions.

This is a varied role requiring hands-on engineering skills - you should be adept at fabricating mechanical fixtures, creating custom circuitry/cabling, writing basic software tools and scripts, data analysis and presentation of the results. You will become an expert in the company's sensor designs as well as inventing clever ways to test their functionality.

Tasks may include:

  • Designing and building electromechanical test rigs
  • Specifying and carrying out automated and manual test campaigns for functionality verification and device characterisation
  • Troubleshooting any issues that may arise
  • Analysing results
  • Creating and maintaining relevant documentation

You will need:

  • Practical electronics and mechanical skills for designing and building fixtures or jigs, preferably with experience using a CAD package such as SolidWorks
  • Good familiarity with standard electronics test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes etc.)
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
