Developing data analytic pipelines and novel methodologies for scientific applications.

This hybrid-style role combines a healthy dose of data science analytics, scientific project understanding and Python software engineering. The role will work with experimental lab scientists to extrapolate key findings from their noisy data sets, developing reproducible processes to create software pipelines. The company is a Cambridge based start-up, working on molecular physics-based problems with applications in synthetic biology. They are testing the boundaries of scientific innovation through their expertise and applied knowledge. Whilst projects are very much at the prototype stage, they have commercial awareness and experience to take their technology to market. This is a key hire for the company, as the Research Scientist will play an important role from taking the science out of the lab and into a product platform. Initial projects will focus on computational analyses of time series data, developing relevant algorithms for event identification and characterisation, and support ongoing experiments and projects.

Requirements:

  • Degree and PhD in physics, chemistry, bioengineering, or similar.
  • Demonstrable project experience in data analysis applied to science areas such as electrochemistry, physiological measurements, or neurochemistry.
  • Excellent Python coding skills and understanding of good software engineering processes (version control, repositories, testing etc).
  • Understanding how to visualise data for academic and industrial reports.
  • Any experience with applied machine learning techniques used for signal processing would be desirable.
  • Similarly, experience working in biotech or pharmacological projects would be of interest.

As this is a start-up, the expectation is that the role would be fully onsite with occasional hybrid working when projects allow. Further, no company sponsorship is available, so interested candidates should have unrestricted rights to work in the UK (candidates holding visas with time restrictions will not be taken forward). On offer is the chance to work in a dynamic company as they begin their growth and be compensated with an excellent remuneration package.
