Overview

Imagine designing hardware that has a positive environmental impact, saving crops and keeping forests healthy. With this Cambridge-based tech startup you can. They have developed AI-powered hardware to monitor a variety of pests allowing farmers or forestry workers to act fast and minimise damage as well as reduce pesticide use. With tens of thousands of units deployed globally and substantial seed funding secured, they\’re seeking an Electronics Engineer to help design the next generation of their wireless monitoring devices.

The role centres on designing electronics for challenging IoT specifications, working with a multidisciplinary team spanning firmware, mechanical, software and manufacturing engineering. The successful candidate will tackle everything from schematic capture and PCB layout through to prototyping, bench testing and production support.

A substantial portion of the first six months will involve expenses-paid international travel to manufacturing sites, designing test jigs and shepherding new products through to production — ensuring the quality standards essential when devices are deployed at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Perform schematic capture and PCB layout; develop prototypes and conduct bench testing.
  • Support production activities, including designing test jigs and providing manufacturing support.
  • Travel to manufacturing sites (expenses-paid) during the first six months to assist with production readiness and quality standards.

Requirements

  • Skilled electronics engineer with commercial-grade experience developing PCBs from schematic to production.
  • Hands-on electronics lab experience with strong debugging using oscilloscopes, multimeters and spectrum analysers.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree (2:1 or above) in Electronics Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Strong attention to detail and self-motivation.

Desirable

  • Knowledge or skills with Altium, low-power or battery-powered electronics, RF design and weather-proofing electronics.
