OVERVIEW

Eclipse is seeking an experienced and highly capable Scenic Workshop Manager to lead the delivery of high-quality scenic builds for a wide range of live events, productions, and experiential projects. This is a senior role requiring both exceptional technical expertise and strong leadership capability. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a large, multi-disciplinary workshop team, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest creative and construction standards.

Working in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment, the Scenic Workshop Manager will play a critical role in translating creative concepts into practical, buildable solutions while maintaining operational efficiency and a positive team culture.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Workshop Leadership & Management
    • Lead, manage, and develop a large scenic workshop team, including carpenters, metalworkers, scenic artists, and freelancers
    • Plan and allocate resources effectively across multiple concurrent projects
    • Foster a collaborative, high-performing, and safety-first working environment
    • Conduct performance management, training, and mentoring of staff
  • Project Delivery
    • Oversee the construction of scenic elements from concept through to completion
    • Interpret technical drawings and ensure accurate and efficient builds
    • Work closely with designers, production managers, and clients to realise creative intent
    • Ensure all projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to Eclipse’s quality standard
  • Operational Management
    • Manage workshop scheduling, workflows, and capacity planning
    • Monitor and control project budgets, materials, and labour costs
    • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and output
    • Oversee procurement of materials and equipment as required
  • Health & Safety
    • Ensure full compliance with all relevant UK Health & Safety legislation
    • Maintain safe systems of work, risk assessments, and method statements (RAMS)
    • Promote a proactive safety culture within the workshop
    • Ensure all staff are appropriately trained in safe use of tools and machinery
  • Technical Oversight
    • Provide expert guidance on scenic construction methods, materials, and finishes
    • Troubleshoot technical challenges and develop practical solutions
    • Oversee maintenance and safe operation of workshop tools and equipment
  • Stakeholder Communication
    • Act as a key point of contact between the workshop and wider production teams
    • Communicate progress, challenges, and solutions clearly to stakeholders
    • Support client-facing discussions where required

WORKING HOURS

There is a requirement for the Scenic Workshop Manager to be on call during agreed periods, which may result in occasional weekend, evening and overnight work according to the changing needs of the business.
