Our expanding Los Angeles team is looking for a Facade Structural Engineer with experience and a range of technical design expertise to contribute to the design of facade systems on a variety of high-profile local and international projects, ranging in both scale and scope. Applicants should have US right to work and be based in the US.

Responsibilities

  • Working on several projects simultaneously, collaborating with the client, architect, and other engineering consultants to determine the best facade design outcomes.
  • Proactively supporting projects internally by producing system calculations, sketches, reports and specifications, coordinated with other parties, under the guidance of Senior Facade Engineers and Directors.
  • Representing Eckersley O'Callaghan at workshops, design team meetings and site meetings with our clients and collaborators.
  • Using awareness of new materials and methods in consideration of client solutions.
  • Carrying out site observations, factory visits, witnessing of mock-ups and testing, preparing technical reports.
  • Contributing to internal R&D initiatives and production of technical notes.

Qualifications

  • A good degree in Structural/Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years’ relevant experience in facade structural engineering in a consulting capacity, from concept through technical design and construction.
  • Extensive experience in facade design and detailing in a consulting or contractor capacity.
  • Working knowledge of US standards and industry guidelines.
  • A rounded knowledge of the engineering aspects of facades.
  • Good understanding of design parameters for a wide range of different materials.
  • Strong sketching and drawing skills using CAD software, as well as 3D modelling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Works effectively in multidisciplinary teams and contributes to shared project outcomes.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and deliver work to agreed timelines.
  • Experience of developing relationships with clients and external parties.
  • Working knowledge of digital design / modelling software.
  • Use of relevant structural analysis software, including RFEM and/or Strand7, as well as glass selection tools, building physics assessments, and environmental analysis.
  • Experienced user of CAD software.
  • Demonstrates awareness of architectural design considerations in facade engineering.
  • Willingness to travel.
