The Opportunity

We're working with a leading UK engineering and technology business that specialises in designing and delivering advanced control, automation, and industrial systems for highly regulated industries. They provide innovative, integrated solutions that enhance safety, efficiency, and operational performance across complex industrial environments. This is an exciting opportunity to join a collaborative proposals team, where you'll play a key role in developing high-quality technical and commercial bids for complex automation and control systems projects. Working alongside engineering, commercial, and supply chain teams, you'll create tailored solutions, support competitive tenders, and manage proposals throughout the full bid lifecycle. This role is ideal for candidates with experience in Applications Engineering, Proposals, Control Systems, or Automation Engineering who enjoy technical solution development and bid preparation. The position is focused on designing solutions and delivering winning proposals rather than hands-on programming or project delivery. Experience within industrial automation, systems integration, energy, nuclear, or other highly regulated sectors would be highly beneficial.

  • Employee wellbeing programme, including GP access and an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP)
  • Enhanced family-friendly policies

Key Responsibilities

  • Review customer requirements and develop technically sound, commercially competitive solutions.
  • Prepare high-quality, compliant technical and commercial tender submissions.
  • Produce conceptual designs for control systems, PLC/SCADA solutions, industrial networks, and overall system architectures.
  • Develop accurate cost estimates, including Bills of Materials (BoMs), supplier quotations, and engineering effort.
  • Collaborate closely with engineering, commercial, supply chain, and sales teams throughout the bid process.
  • Support internal stakeholders during pre- and post-tender discussions.
  • Participate in tender reviews, risk assessments, and proposal strategy meetings.
  • Manage multiple bids simultaneously, ensuring deadlines and quality standards are achieved.
  • Drive continuous improvement within proposal and bid management processes.
  • Take ownership of the complete proposal lifecycle, from interpreting customer requirements through to tender submission and post-bid support.

Experience & Skills

  • Background in Electrical, Control, Automation, or Functional Safety Systems Engineering.
  • Experience with PLC, SCADA, or DCS systems, including control panels, servers, industrial networks, and system architecture.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety standards, including SIL, SIS, ESD, and Fire & Gas systems.
  • Ability to interpret technical specifications and identify project scope, risks, and compliance requirements.
  • Experience preparing cost estimates, Bills of Materials, and engineering hour calculations for industrial automation projects.
  • Familiarity with Siemens or Rockwell automation platforms and industrial cybersecurity principles would be advantageous.
  • Degree, HND, or equivalent qualification in a relevant engineering discipline.
