£30-33 per hour, 40-50 hours per week

Locations: Yorkshire, Bristol, Thames – with travel across the UK

Overview: We’re hiring experienced Mechanical ATEX Inspectors to support inspections of mechanical equipment in hazardous areas across the UK. This is a hands-on role for engineers who understand the critical importance of safety and compliance in high-risk environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of mechanical equipment in ATEX zones (0, 1, 2, 20, 21, 22).
  • Assess compliance with ATEX Directive 2014/34/EU, BS EN 60079, and relevant standards.
  • Inspect rotating machinery, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and static assemblies.
  • Evaluate mechanical protective systems (e.g., flameproof enclosures, couplings, brakes).
  • Identify defects and non-conformities, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Produce detailed inspection reports with full traceability.
  • Support maintenance teams and project stakeholders with technical guidance.
  • Participate in HAZID and HAZOP assessments.
  • Ensure inspection tools and methods meet regulatory and company standards.

Essential Qualifications & Experience:

  • Recognised Mechanical Apprenticeship or equivalent.
  • HNC or similar technical qualification.
  • CompEx Ex11 Mechanical Certificate.
  • Strong working knowledge of ATEX, IEC 60079 series, and mechanical integrity standards.
  • Experience in hazardous industries (e.g., oil & gas, petrochemical, chemical).
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and documentation.
  • Excellent communication and reporting skills.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.
  • No sponsorship available, full right to work in the UK essential.

Desirable:

  • CompEx Ex05-Ex06 (Combustible Dust)
  • EUSR, CCNSG Safety Passport, National Gas SC091
  • Experience with pressure equipment and rotating machinery
  • Familiarity with PED, ISO 9001, OSHA frameworks

Work Conditions:

  • Site-based inspections in hazardous environments
  • Travel to client sites across the UK (occasional international travel)
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols
