The Opportunity
Our client, a leading name in mechanical engineering and rotating machinery, is seeking a skilled Manual Machinist / Turner to join their growing team. This role is ideal for someone confident working with manual milling and turning machinery, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual lathes and milling machines to machine components to specification
- Read and interpret engineering drawings and technical diagrams
- Use precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, gauges) to ensure accuracy
- Carry out component inspections and ensure work is to spec
- Set up machinery, including tooling changes and material loading
- Maintain a clean and safe working environment in line with health and safety guidelines
- Collaborate with the wider team to meet production schedules and solve machining challenges
What We’re Looking For
- Proven experience as a manual machinist or turner
- Strong experience using milling machines and/or lathes (manual, not CNC)
- Ability to work to tight tolerances and quality standards
- Good knowledge of machine shop safety and best practices
- Comfortable reading and interpreting technical drawings
- Self-motivated, dependable, and able to work independently or as part of a team
Desirable (but not essential)
- Apprenticeship, formal engineering qualification or at least 5 years' experience in a similar role
- Experience in a similar role within a COMAH, manufacturing or engineering workshop
- Familiarity with surface grinders or other traditional machining equipment
